Perry nodded, welcoming the extra company and still feeling uneasy. She placed her pillow down and tried to relax, although fighting every urge to start cleaning an already tidy room. That’s when she turned her attention to LaF who didn’t’ hesitate to say yes at the offer of hot chocolate.
Carmilla recognized Laura’s tone and sighed. Flashing a teasing smirk that translated into ‘I will try and play nice’ she waited for her to head to the kitchen and kept an ear tuned in to her girlfriends heartbeat. Although still keeping her cold calm persona, Carmilla was worried about Laura. She just didn’t know how to show it without breaking and that’s the last thing Laura needed to see.
“So what do you know?” LaF’s voice snapped Carm back into reality. She was clearly staring at Laura but they needed the vampire in full research mode. “You must know something, right?”
Raising her knee up so she could rest her arm, Carm took a deep breath and tried not to snap. “Considering I’ve barely had any time with Laura since everything that has happened, I’m not fully aware of all the symptoms yet. I know as much as you at this point.” Alright so it was a dig but we all knew Carm had a selfish side when it came to Laura.
“I don’t think it’s psycoschismatic. Laura would be the first wanting to forget everything and move on. I mean, look at Perry.” Perry was currently playing with the ends of the curls in her hair. “How long did Perry have your mom using her like a puppet and she’s completely fine. No side effects, well unless you count getting a little spaced out from time to time but I’m not sure if that was there before the whole possession thing.”
“I see your point.”
“Do you have any ideas?”
“It’s not like this has happened before and people come out the other side.” Carm lowered her voice. “When her heart was taken it was held by magic and that can always leave a scar. The previous times this has happened people die, they don’t get it put back in their chest.”
“And..”
Carmilla cut LaF off. “That’s not to mention she stopped my mother and saw into the gate. I’ve only known the oldest of immortals to stare into that. That’s a lot of power for a human to see.”
“So…Laura might have super powers? Neat!”
The vampire rolled her eyes. “It’s a possibility. Then again her body could be rejecting what happened because she’s human so…”
LaF’s eyes widened. “You’d make her…like you?”
“Don’t say it like it is a bad thing. She’d make a great vampire.” Carmilla noticed the look on LaF’s face and felt she should at least try and calm Laura’s friend down. “And no, before you ask we haven’t spoken about it.”
Perry, who was still in a world of her own up until this point, finally snapped back to life. “There has to be a book or something about people that have seen what she has. We have Google, maybe there is something online? We need all hands on deck.”
Thankfully that broke the silence of the LaF and Carm’s worrying discussion over Laura. Carmilla got up and started picking books from one of her mother’s shelves and LaF started setting up a laptop with the help of Perry who was having too much fun untangling the power supply.
“Laura?” a crack of lightening happened about the same time as Carmilla called her name. Placing the books on the side she pushed the dark green curtain out the way and headed into the kitchen. “Need a hand?”
