The heartrate getting faster only made Carmilla’s panic grow. The faster it raced the faster she searched. In the end she had to ignore the candles that were already close to fading and turn on the lights. She briefly stopped to check this wasn’t all a crazy nightmare and went back over to place her hand on Laura’s chest. Not only was it still beating, confirming Carmilla’s panic should be real but Laura’s chest wasn’t moving. She wasn’t breathing and had a temperature.
“What have I done.”, She felt a tear start to roll down her cheek, trying to catch her breath. That’s when she saw her phone on the floor like a beacon of hope. It must have fallen out her bag. “Mattie.” With speed unmatched by humans she called her friend. It kept going to voicemail but Carmilla didn’t give up. Third call, fourth call..she kept going while pacing up and down their bedroom.
After the eighth call there was noise like someone appearing in the behind her. Carmilla turned to be presented with her old friend. “Alright alright Cherie, no need to keep calling.” Mattie instantly noticed Carm was upset. She hadn’t seen her like this in…well in a long time. Seeing Laura on the bed confirmed that something was clearly not right. Carmilla only got emotion if this girl was involved.
“Well this is a turn for the books.” Mattie walked over to Laura. She could hear the heart beat and rested the back of her hand on the seemingly unbreathing girl. “Magical coma? Poison? Have you fallen out with a witch doctor?” She mused, looking at Carm.
“I turned her. I did everything you taught me and it went wrong. Why did it go wrong?” Carm’s balled her hands in anger, forgetting she was holding her phone it disintegrated in her hand.
“Clearly you weren’t paying attention. Never in all my years have I seen this reaction. Did you bond with her?”
Carm brushed the broken phone parts out of her hand. She couldn’t place if she was angry at Mattie for being so calm or mad at herself. The emotion was overwhelming. “I didn’t get a chance to talk to her about it. She hasn’t woken up since…since I bit her.”
“You mean drained the life from her?” Mattie was surprising calm about the whole thing. Not exactly helpful for Carmilla in her present state of panic. “Oh and she’s wearing your ring. How cute. I didn’t think you’d last this long but I got to admit I’m happy I was wrong.”
“Mattie!” Carm snapped. “Can you find out? As someone? Just bring her back.” Seeing that Mattie was proving to be completely useless at helping. Carm grabbed Laura’s phone now visible on her desk and send an SOS message to LaF and Perry.
