What Time Is It?
lauronica_mars
Years had passed since the events at Silas University. Since the mansion and the unforgeable encounter with Elle and the bunch of restless spirits. Thankfully, since the destruction of the left over eggs from the Angler Fish God life had finally become normal. Well, normal in the world of Carmilla and Laura wasn’t your usual definition. Carmilla was a vampire and finally had her PHD in philosophy. LaF and Perry’s business had exploded and grown to chains all across the world. They even bought an apartment near Laura and Carm’s for when they were in town and could visit. Carm swore Laura pretty much spoke to them every day anyway. Her and her friends were inseparable at times. At first Carm found that annoying but over the years she’d come to respect how there for one another they were. Sometimes it even reminded Carm of a time her and Mattie were so close.
She got back to the apartment before Laura. This time carrying another box of colourful fan mail, thankfully smaller than the one from yesterday. Laura’s reporting had finally paid off and after her blog and videos exploded over the internet a lot of people stepped forward with strange or supernatural occurrences around the world. It meant the two of them got to travel, help people which Laura loved to do and her reporting was as popular than ever. Even Carm got fan mail which weirded her out from time to time. At least in all this between them, LaF and Perry none of the small success had gone to their heads.
After placing the box on the kitchen counter Carm poured herself a glass of synthetic blood. LaF and Perry supplied them free of charge which was another thing Carm could never complain about. She took a sip standing in front of the five year plan board which was now mounted on the living room wall. The laptop was still out from some recording Laura had done in the morning. Carm pulled her long now straight hair back and into a high ponytail collapsed on the couch. The clock read 23:06. By vampire time this was way too early to be up.
There was a groan followed by a blanket being pulled down over her. Her hand only escaped to turn on the TV to the horror channel. Obviously Carm’s favorite.

"I've a better one than you." And she'd at least stopped feeling hungry before looking up at the library and smiling. "You've seen what I've turned into. Carmilla thinks that going to a world where her mother is still alive would be sensible, but I think you're a library and can either tell us or send us the right place."
Where Carmilla was in the stacks a book of Darwin Awards and a book called Planning For Dummies fell on her head. Apparently the library was unimpressed with Carmilla's plans.

“Look my girlfriend.” She paused, now correcting herself. “My fiancé is meant to be a vampire. I’m not asking for the world I just want to fix this. And don’t pretend you’re not listening because I know you are. You helped Laura once before so help the both of us now.”
Carmilla tried the door again. Glancing back at Laura she hoped the Library had listened to her. She had to fix this. Only when turned the handle the old wooden door busted up and pulled Carm in the into the blue light coming from the inside. She reached out for Laura and instead caught the door frame. Everything in the room was being pulled as if it was a black hole opening.
“Sure. Now it listens.” Carmilla shouted over the noise of wind rushing past her. One of her fingers slipping off the frame. There was just enough time for her to look at Laura before Carm lost her grip completely and was pulled inside.

Looking round they appeared to be in the library where they had started off. But this had been used by someone other than the pair of them and LaF.

She waited for Laura to get up and got to her feet. It was the same library alright, only with subtle differences. First of which being it looks like this basement part is actually used. “Why would it bring us here? Wherever here is?” Carmilla was convinced the library was playing a joke on them.
“Come on. The sooner I can find mother the sooner I can fix this.” She headed up the stairs, the noise of people around getting louder. The campus was starting to look like how it was when Carmilla first arrived only everyone kept staring at her. Well, staring at them. Every time Carmilla made eye contact someone would turn away and pretended to work. It was the weirdest feeling.
“Is it me or do they look slightly scared of us?”

But the way out was pretty obvious and into the sunlight. Which looked ... remarkably sunny and as if there wasn't any gloom to be seen anywhere. And all the buildings had been given fresh coats of paint, making Silas look pretty, welcoming, and professional.
no subject
It was a completely different place and so busy with students who kept a wide circle away from them. “Okay something is definitely up. We should probably head for the Deans office before we do anything else.” She noticed a few students pack up and their things at the sight of the two of them. “I’d say split up but I’m starting to think this place is weird. And since when did Silas look so…good?”
no subject
The location of the Dean's office was obvious. The building itself was unchanged - other than painted a nice pink with perfectly manicured lawns and plants that were growing remarkably well, although a few of them did look a bit sinister.
"And that building is almost too welcoming."
no subject
“When we get to the office let me do the talking. Mother can be ruthless. If she suspects for one second that I care about you she’ll kill you.” Carm didn’t want to scare Laura but her mother was capable of anything and this world could have thrown out any wicked version or her.
When they got to the front door of The Deans office Carmilla took and deep breath and attempted to compose herself. Laura could come in with her or stay here but if she chose to come inside Carm had to make sure their body language didn’t give they were in love away.
“If you coming don’t show her a second of weakness. Trust me she’ll know.” Carm reached for the handle. “Ready?”

The Laura behind the desk blinked. "Whatever I expected when people told me I was somewhere I wasn't it wasn't this. Please tell me that you're the Ell Hollis and Mircalla Carnstein of another dimension and not yet another pair of doppelganger assassins trying to depose and replace me as Dean of Silas. If you are, thank you for not killing any of my students in passing."
Laura blinked. "We're from another universe but I didn't expect to find myself here? I'm Laura and this is Carmilla."
Ell looked at Carmilla. "Were you born Carmilla like my Mircala, or is this some sort of reversal?" Under the desk she took her hand off a button.

So many questions and Carmilla couldn’t stop staring at Ell. The resemblance to Laura being almost impossible to tell apart. All but Ell’s skin looking a little paler which was enough to raise Carm’s suspicion.
“Wait.” She tried to catch Ell before she replied, just for a few seconds of silence. It was in that small window of time only one strong heartbeat could be heard in the room and that was coming from Laura.
Carmilla’s face dropped into surprise and her defence dropped. She didn’t know if Laura had the vampire hearing so said what she suspected out loud. “In this world, your Mircalla turned you didn’t she?” It would take some getting used talking about herself like that.
“You’re a vampire.”
no subject
Laura shrugged. "It took five years for Matska to kill her mother then dig up Mircalla. And yes I am a vampire."
Laura whistled. "Well, that's pretty different. I guess they were lucky enough to not deal with the Seals. And Mattie used to keep her heart in the locket you're wearing. And it's a cow's heart in there?"
no subject
“How long have you and Mircalla been together?”, Carmilla sat on the desk right in front of Ell but slightly off to one side so Laura could still see. The resemblance was uncanny. Everything, even her scent was Laura. Carmilla let her hand cup Ell’s face, her thumb brushed over her bottom lip.
“Didn’t anyone ever tell you not to touch what isn’t yours? Or is this an exception?” Mircalla leant against the side of the doorframe to Ell’s office with a wicked smile. By now she was used to different dimensions and realities. Her and Ell had seen some strange things over the years and many other versions of themselves, but not all of those versions were good. Until Ell told her otherwise they posed as threat. Both of them.
Carmilla didn’t remove her hand but simply turned her head to look at Mircalla who was now behind Laura. She took her from behind, hand around her waist holding her firmly against her. The other hand tangling in Laura’s hair and pull her head to the side. “I don’t know what’s exactly going on here but touch what’s mine and I’ll take what’s yours.”
Mircalla loved the sound of Laura’s heart quickening as she grabbed her. “And trust me…” She looked at Ell and Carmilla, never breaking eye contact while she teasingly nipped Laura’s soft exposed neck. She was so much like Ell it was intoxicating. “...that can go one of two ways.”
She waited for Ell to tell her if she wanted them removed but it was hard to concentrate when this Laura felt so much like Ell.

And then she caught her breath as she was grabbed from behind, her body pressed into the body of her lover's double. And knowing exactly how much the way she shuddered and squirmed very slightly would turn at least her Carmilla on, and somehow she doubted that this version of her was any different. And one way or another she was getting her brains fucked out, although by whom might depend on how possessive Carmilla was feeling right now.
Ell meanwhile was a little more considering than Laura. This Carmilla reacted like her Calla right down to fancying her, finding her intoxicating, and knowing exactly where to touch. If these strangers were here on the errand they said this could be more fun than she'd had in a while. Still, one of her hands caught Carmilla's wrist and she noticed the positioning of Laura's feet, enough that if she twisted she had the strength and momentum to send Calla flying. Idly Ell wondered if Laura was trained in her own Taekwondo or something else. Not that it mattered.
Laura gasped as her head was pulled slightly to the side and she was nipped, but she was slightly more impulsive than her older version. "More than two ways. There are four possible threesome as well as the foursome. And if anyone doesn't want to try things we normally can't then say something. Carm?" Because she could see the tension between her lover and her doppelganger. Which might have worried her if they weren't themselves.
no subject
Mircalla had waited for Ell to say something, to warn her what version of them had come into their world this time but as she didn’t say anything Mircalla assumed they weren’t being tricked any time soon. Not to mention Ell was more than capable of dealing with them on her own if they meant any harm. Feeling Laura squirm back against her she purred. Mircalla loved it. The more Laura tried to move the harder Mircalla locked her in her playfully in her grip, not afraid to put the pressure on. “Now there’s idea.” She smirked in response to Laura’s comment, studying each curve of her throat as she half wondered why her doppelganger hadn’t turned her version by now. From hearing the heartbeat Mircalla instinctively assumed this version was still human. “Ell?” She pouted like a spoilt child wanting permission to play with a new toy.
As this happened Carmilla pushed off the desk and calmly walked towards Mircalla and Laura. “Dangerous or not I know me and no matter what version of Laura and Ell is out there; you wouldn’t be able to hurt her. Not unless she wanted it.” Yes Carmilla was possessive. No one had tipped her world upside down like Laura had. Loved her enough to propose and give herself knowing full well that forever was a long time.
“You got me there.” Mircalla smirked at her double, letting go of Laura’s hair so her could move freely but still keeping her pinned back.
Carmilla now opposite her Laura wanted her to know she was okay with this if she wanted it. The only exception. With one hand cupping Laura’s cheek the other found the ring on her finger and made a point of playing with it. “Mine.” She mirrored the way Laura convinced her everything was okay earlier and that she wasn’t going anywhere without her, sealing it with kiss so slow and deep with passion that her double couldn’t resist joining in by letting her hand slip under Laura’s top.
As Mircalla’s hands unclipped Laura’s bra and started to tease her breasts. Let her fingers trace slowly around her nipples, waiting for Carmilla to deepen that kiss and when she did Mircalla’s touch became firm. “Ours.” She whispered in Laura’s ear. Loving that she was pinned between her and Carmilla but still wondering if Ell was going to come play.

Ell narrowed her eyes as Laura moaned into Carmilla's mouth and melted between the two vampires, turning both of them on. And looking into Carmilla's eyes but replying to both with a breathy moan of "Yours". And smiled warmly a second later when Laura twisted and both vampires were thrown flat on their backs, Laura taking advantage of neither vampire weighing any more than she did and Calla's grip on her arm being a surer grip than any she could have.
Ell's voice was soft but claimed the silence before Laura had a chance. "Enough." It was time to take centre stage, remaining sitting to show she was the one with actual control. Her double was clearly both just as distractible and just as determined as she was, and Elle had long found that she could never have enough allies or enough knowledge. And there would be benefits; she had no doubt that Carmilla would be as turned on by a version of her that could bounce her off all four walls and the ceiling as Mircalla would be by an ingénue version of her with a heartbeat. "I'm sure the two of you didn't violate a host of physical laws just for a foursome."
Laura blushed. "No. Carmilla tried to turn me? And I ended up like this?" She smiled at both her hosts, then let her fangs out before wincing and retracting them, a trickle of blood running down the right hand side of her lower lip where she'd nicked herself. "I asked the Library where to find out more and it sent us here?"

Carmilla got up a few seconds after her double but went to her Laura. Both parties stood like reflections in a mirror be it all but small changes to their appearance. As Laura explained a wash of guilt flooded over her, clearly wondering if her double would be thinking what she was.
After Laura had finished Carm stood by her side but spoke to Ell, “If there’s one person who would know what happened it would have been Mother.” She dropped her gaze to the floor. “Laura had just proposed and I did this to her. She should have been a vampire…” What worried her was the lack of knowing what damage she might have done to Laura.
Mircalla glanced at the rings on her and Ells fingers and then looked to Laura and Carm’s. “Well, well, just proposed.” She smirked and moved to sit on the edge of Ell’s desk. “So young.”
Carm was curious how much older these versions of them were but couldn’t bring herself to ask. “If Mother is dead then we need to go. There’s nothing you could know that we don’t already.”
no subject
Had Laura known Mircalla's thoughts she'd have pointed out she could have done that to a pair of zetas if she had to - and for all vampires were much stronger and faster than humans at no point had she tried to pit her strength against theirs, merely her strength against their weight and balance. But instead she needed to interrupt her girlfriend. "Carm, the library sent us here. And you can't deny that they know far more about us, our relationship, and what sort of vampire I'd make than your mother did." Laura shrugged. "Besides. Your mother was old and knowledgeable. But I saw her for months pretending to be Perry. She didn't really understand anything actually new as other than magic or a tool."
Ell picked up. "So it sent you here. To us, where we have a university and might be able to help you out. I do however have a question for you, Carmilla." She looked straight at the vampire and almost came into focus, gesturing with her hands in a way that made her look as if she had as little reserve as Laura. "Are you out of your mind? Going to your sire for help? The one person who could turn you into her tool with little effort. The person who abused you for over a century and locked you in a literal iron maiden under a slaughterhouse, planning to never let you free?"
Laura interrupted. "Coffin filled with blood"
"Locked you in a coffin filled with blood then." Ell shrugged. That was a mere detail and they knew it. "Carmilla, no matter what you did to Laura, and she looks and smells fine to me, there is nothing you could have done that would have hurt her more than giving yourself to your sire for her. Especially if you didn't need to.

Carmilla nodded. “I…we…were her favourite for over two hundred years. I know if I went back to that time or if I found a universe where she was alive, I could find something out.” It was a loose idea but she didn’t know what was happening to Laura and their doubles had been there for days, holding her body and waiting for her to wake up. Not to mention the shock of how she was when she finally did. The thought of losing her wasn’t an option.
Which is why when Ell asked her what she was thinking in exactly the same tone Laura did before they argued, she instantly got her back up. “And what I was thinking? I was thinking that Laura deserves to know what she is!” She looked at her double for agreement but to her surprise Mircalla didn’t back her up. She watched her unfold her arms and rest one behind Ell’s back.
“But you’re right.” Carm turned to look at Laura. “The library bought us here for a reason. We’ve just got to figure out what that is.”
no subject
Ell smiled. "And speaking of the most friendly Dean I'd like to coordinate your movements. Nothing throws people off like being in two places at once. And perhaps I can use you as a fake clone to get those assassins or even that industrial espionage team onto the wrong track. Of course we'd be more than happy to help find out what we can about you."
no subject
That’s when Ell mentioned assassins and suddenly Carmilla was back in the room. “You want to use us as assassin bait in exchange for helping us? Why do you have assassins here?” Something didn’t feel right. Carm wondered if the two of them were hiding something from her and Laura. It was a fleeting suspicion but why would assassins or even espionage teams be on the campus? This topped with the fact that students were scared enough to keep away from the two of them made her curious.
“You want to use us as bait?” Carmilla walked over and leant on the desk. Arms at the edge she looked at Elle with curiosity. “Why are students scared of us? More you then her.” Carm nodded towards Mircalla when she said her.
no subject
Ell shrugged. "We have right here one of the safest campuses in Europe. The Summer Society has almost given up looking for people to protect round here. And if that means everyone is on their best behaviour round me, and knows to run when I'm on the warpath so be it."
"And no you aren't bait. You're confusion. There's a difference. I'd rather the remnants of Corvae Corporation or the two Lophiformes cults I've banned from Silas attacked me than Laura. And if I thought they had a team here I'd be tearing the place apart. But I'd be a fool not to realise they had agents here. And the more I can confuse them the better."
Laura was confused. "Two Lophiformed cults."
"Of course. One wants to sacrifice people to appease it and the other wants to attack it with rocket launchers and tank guns to kill it."
no subject
“Fine. I’ll agree to help you if you help us.” She left standing in front of Ell to head to Laura. “Where do you want us to go?” She thought it would be best if the two of them stuck together but somehow Carm had a feeling that they might have a to separate for a time.
“Two Laphiformed cults. Now I’ve heard of everything.” She sighed. “When do we start?”
no subject
Laura audibly gulped at the thought of being left alone with the two versions of Carmilla, deliberately letting everyone know where her thoughts had wandered to.
"Oh, and Laura? If anything happens to your clothes, Calla can put you in some of mine."
"Thank you, Ell." Laura smiled.
no subject
“As you wish.” Mircalla smirked, now looking at her love like she had just been given an early birthday present. Part of her sad that Ell couldn’t be there to watch her slowly unwrap it. They had been together for long now that even being at her worst, cold and emotionless Ell could read her. Sometimes words weren’t even needed. She gave her that look, the one that said ‘hate it when you work late’ crossed with ‘I love you’ and kicked away from the desk. “Oh I’ve got plenty of things in mind to keep us amused. Right Carmilla?”
It wasn’t every day a situation like this happened. “Right.” Carm agreed. All three of them were now heading out of the office. “And I suppose situations like this don’t happen often so it would be rude not to forget about everything for one night…maybe two.” She noticed Mircalla’s glance back at Ell when the door shut behind them.
“You read my mind.” Mircalla said leading them through the slightly familiar be it somewhat different corridors of the campus. Some of the rooms had changed around. Carm noted how everything was more organised and a lot brighter. There was clearly a Hollis influence going on. She linked arms with her double and whispered something in Mircalla’s ear away from Laura. “I’m not sure she’ll be able to handle that.” Calla deliberately said that out loud.
Towards the back of the campus where the students became few and far between, Ell and Mircalla had their own place. Similar to Carm’s mothers house in design it was a beautiful building that fit distance wise from the rest of the site. Mircalla let them inside. “The two of you can stay with us as long as you need. Our home is your home.”
Carmilla started looking around, picking up various photographs and noting how very ‘like them’ everything inside was like. A whole different universe and they still kept the same taste in furniture. It was nice to see some things don’t change. As Laura stepped in front of the coach Carm came up behind her. “Very us, huh?” She smirked. “Wonder how our older versions decorated the bedroom..”
“Why don’t you go upstairs and find out Laura?” Mircalla chimed in. “I’m sure it won’t disappoint.”
no subject
Silas looked so much better like this! Laura noticed a lot of her own touches all over the place and things she'd have done. She wasn't sure if it was slightly darker than she'd have made it because Ell was darker than she was or there was only so much you could do to a place.
Looking upstairs as directed, Laura put her hand on what was to her a pretty obvious door not even noticing that it was supposed to be concealed to the point no other visitor had spotted it; Ell had insisted that the playroom remained hidden and locked so no visitors found it accidentally and undermined part of her image. (On the occasions Mircalla had actual prey she took it elsewhere). Looking round her breath caught and her heart jumped. "Well, this room is certainly well equipped." In truth she didn't even know what everything did. "You always sleep here?"
