The mansion was so big that Carmilla couldn’t find Ell or Mircalla. She was furious that they locked up the Perry and LaF of this world but couldn’t wrap her head around why they would. Yes, Mircalla and Ell were older versions of her and Laura, yes they were slightly different but could those differences really cause them to chain up their friends? Carmilla was starting to become suspicious and it didn’t help she was starting to have a little jealously over her doppelganger as well.

When she couldn’t find either of them Carmilla went back to the room where Laura was sleeping. She crawled in behind her, making sure Lara was still covered and warm and when settled, started to trace patterns and swirls lightly on the bare of her back. It was a comfort thing Carmilla did just to let Laura know she was there.

The last few days had been crazy for the both of them. To think Laura planned such a beautiful proposal and now they were in another universe all because Carmilla panicked over turning the love of her life.

But eventually her hand fell away and Carm drifted asleep. The next morning, she woke early and buried herself in the dark covers. Laura must have been exhausted as she was still asleep and comfortably nestled into her side claimed of the bed. She smiled and brushed the back of her fingers down Laura’s cheek, taking in how beautiful she is until she woke up.

As it usually did the passion escalated quickly between Mircalla and Ell, one another play fighting and taking turns dominating the other. It never got old. The two of them must have been up more than half the night together and if it wasn’t for the fact they were both vampires, Mircalla was certain they would constantly be covered in scratches, bites and other heated marks.

In the morning Mircalla and Ell were curled up face to face. Their feet were locked together and Mircalla playfully kissed her on the lips “Love?”

There were many things Carmilla wanted to ask mother about but knew better than to probe. She wasn’t the only vampire who had a curiosity around things her mother had or had done. Mattie was the closest to push all those buttons and as a result was often punished for even thinking of asking. Even the board would occasionally spy just to gain that one step ahead. Every time landing in a failed attempt. Mother was many things but private was something she excelled at.

Even in an alternative universe the curiosity surrounding the vault was still something Carmilla always wanted to know. Of course she had heard rumours and vampires had claimed to have seen things. Others used to say that whoever mother took in would never come out. Over the years as whispers would carry, the stories spiralled into webs of mystery and fed that curiosity even more.

So why not take the opportunity to see it here? How different could it be?

Having spent time with Laura and Mircalla, Carm couldn’t sleep. She had left the two of them to explore the house and this led to discovering Ell in her study. It was still strange to see her, the complete mirror of her Laura but not quite the same. Although unaged she was older, as was Mircalla, and their experiences and world was shaped under completely different circumstances. But no matter what universe they found themselves in it was clear that fate always brought them together. There was something about that idea that would normally scare Carmilla but when it came to Laura there was nothing she was more sure about it.

After getting changed into her usual black leather pants and whatever dark coloured tank top she could find. Carm grabbed her jacket and looked over at Laura and Mircalla who were sleeping soundly. Both didn’t look like they were going to wake any time soon and she would be surprised if Laura wasn’t exhausted from earlier and needed some rest. This would at least give Carm the chance to see more of Ell behind her walls of being the dean.

She tied her jet black hair back into a high ponytail and headed for the living room where Ell said to meet once she had finished with some paperwork. From what Carmilla had worked out so far in the day of her and Laura arriving is that Ell seemed to be swamped in paperwork. She might have that wrong but so far Laura’s double always seemed busy and Carm was determined to at least get to know the side of Ell wasn’t behind a desk. She was also curious on her relationship with Mircalla but didn’t yet know how to approach that subject if even to bring it up at all?

“Ell?” Carm said quietly as came down the stairs. On instinct she tried to catch a heartbeat like she would normally do with Laura but had to remind herself that Ell was full vampire and much harder to detect.

Years had passed since the events at Silas University. Since the mansion and the unforgeable encounter with Elle and the bunch of restless spirits. Thankfully, since the destruction of the left over eggs from the Angler Fish God life had finally become normal. Well, normal in the world of Carmilla and Laura wasn’t your usual definition. Carmilla was a vampire and finally had her PHD in philosophy. LaF and Perry’s business had exploded and grown to chains all across the world. They even bought an apartment near Laura and Carm’s for when they were in town and could visit. Carm swore Laura pretty much spoke to them every day anyway. Her and her friends were inseparable at times. At first Carm found that annoying but over the years she’d come to respect how there for one another they were. Sometimes it even reminded Carm of a time her and Mattie were so close.

She got back to the apartment before Laura. This time carrying another box of colourful fan mail, thankfully smaller than the one from yesterday. Laura’s reporting had finally paid off and after her blog and videos exploded over the internet a lot of people stepped forward with strange or supernatural occurrences around the world. It meant the two of them got to travel, help people which Laura loved to do and her reporting was as popular than ever. Even Carm got fan mail which weirded her out from time to time. At least in all this between them, LaF and Perry none of the small success had gone to their heads.

After placing the box on the kitchen counter Carm poured herself a glass of synthetic blood. LaF and Perry supplied them free of charge which was another thing Carm could never complain about. She took a sip standing in front of the five year plan board which was now mounted on the living room wall. The laptop was still out from some recording Laura had done in the morning. Carm pulled her long now straight hair back and into a high ponytail collapsed on the couch. The clock read 23:06. By vampire time this was way too early to be up.

There was a groan followed by a blanket being pulled down over her. Her hand only escaped to turn on the TV to the horror channel. Obviously Carm’s favorite.
