Laura glared at Callis, a comical sight to those who didn't know her, and her voice became quiet, another warning sign from her that caused LaF to visibly flinch. "PowerPuff? Assaulting my girlfriend was what you had to do? And I know LaFontaine's relationship with medical ethics is tenuous." LaF just shrugged; she'd never denied it.
And Laura, frowning, because the words were merely memorised, switched to the Ancient Greek of the Summer Society's more formal rituals. "Callis. You have offered offence to me." A frown creased her face as she tried to remember the right formulation. "And harmed my beloved. I demand satisfaction, here and now, using only that which we have on us. Accept or be known as a coward."
Callis' response was derisive. "You do know what you are doing, Laura? Wearing only a t-shirt? And who taught you that? Danny?"
Laura rolled her eyes. "Of course she didn't. You think she'd tell me how to put myself in danger? But I am a reporter and can find things out. Now stand on your feet or kneel and beg my forgiveness. And Carm's." Which she knew Callis would never do.
"It's time someone taught you that you can't just hide behind your vampire when playing in the big leagues, Hollis." Callis' tone was exasperated as she stood up. "I'm going to take you over my knee. And Carmilla if you try to save her her life is literally owed to the Summer Society."
Laura rolled her eyes. "Strong words from someone who shoots sleeping women."
Callis tried to slap Laura hard and there was a blur of motion and Laura was rolling backwards as Callis was flying through the air through where Laura had been, hitting the wall hard upside down by the only section of wall that had no bed, bookcase, or paintings to hit.
Laura looked at her as she fell, protecting her head with her arms and gasping for breath. "You want to surrender now? Or you want to try again when you've got your breath back and are taking me seriously."
